Heidi is a visual artist, printmaker, activist, and arts educator based in Johannesburg. Heidi works mainly in printmaking, drawing and painting. In her printmaking practice, she experiments with alternative photographic printmaking processes, and has a passion for monotype, linocut, drypoint and other low-toxic etching techniques. Her artmaking varies from activist work to the more humorous and playful.
Started in 2019, her ongoing printmaking series Something’s fishy consists of prints in differing sizes which explore a variety of printmaking techniques. Through the work she attempts to visualise the vulnerability of the subconscious mind using the metaphor of predatory deep-sea fish, which allows her to reflect ironically on past characters and situations she has experienced.
Heidi holds a Masters’ degree in Fine Arts (UJ) and is currently the 2nd year co-ordinator at Artist Proof Studio (APS). She has participated in several exhibitions and held her first solo exhibition at the 2017 ABSA KKNK.
