Taking inspiration from the natural world, Jana Kolodziej examines what draws her to an image, abstracting rather than reproducing it, in search of an essence.
She welcomes the process of printmaking as an opportunity to step back from the image. Working intuitively, inviting the characteristics of medium and tools to add their mark, the making of an image becomes a discovery rather than a determined act.
Born in Germany, Jana studied Fine Art at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee, graduating with a degree in Fine Art/Sculpture (1997). After completing her studies, she moved to Cape Town.
