Lebogang Mogul Mabusela

Lebogang is a multidisciplinary artist and a self-proclaimed monotypebabe and zinequeen based between Johannesburg and Pretoria. In 2019 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from the Wits School of Arts.  She is the founder of Makoti Technologies™ (est 2017) a Bridal gifts shop that works as a mobile outlet offering a humorous range of gunz (with manuals) that enhance women's desires and roast patriarchy, while maintaining their attitudes.

Lebogang says: “Growing up in South Africa and being raised by mostly women. I have seen doilies mostly being used as ornamental centre pieces. These objects represent order, cleanliness, perfection and beauty, and are cultural objects and signifiers of style. But they are also signifiers of a logical black femininity and black womanhood that is very sinister to me. In my work I use monotype printing and watercolour painting and sculpture to rearrange, invent, challenge and imagine doilies informed by unsettling childhood anecdotes as well as everyday experiences surrounding black femininity and gender norms.”

Currently, her primary mediums are monotype and linocut.
