I studied Fine
Art Printmaking at university. As part of my postgraduate degree, I majored in
Western reduction woodblock printmaking and colour etching. My practice has
always been intertwined with teaching, at secondary and tertiary levels. At
present I run a teaching printmaking studio. My work is housed in several
private collections both local and abroad, as well as in corporate and public
institutions.
The alchemy and unpredictability involved in the many ancient processes of
printmaking create a sense of magic and wonder for me; they always have. This
challenges my creative process and informs my ideas.
The rich historical legacy of these methods means there is a very deep
connection between everything I use; my subject matter has a similar
connection.
The objects I find inspiring are not merely superficial artefacts, there is a
profound sense of memory and association within them; of what lies beneath the
patterns and motifs.
My work is deeply autobiographical. I am fascinated with the narrative which
has been passed down (or lost and forgotten). Mostly domestic themed, these
images are filled with pattern, colour and design; and almost always a
reference to my environment, whether it be a landscape or a plant specimen.
