Madeleine van Manen
(1966) works in various mediums, from oils, gouache, drawing mediums, and
printmaking. After working as a graphic designer in the publishing industry and
advertising industries. She was able to focus on art full-time when she left the
industry in 2009. Van Manen moved into her inner-city studio on Bree Street in
Cape Town in 2018. Her current focus includes scenes from the city and nature.
She responds to both through reflection and emphasis on mood. Van Manen aims to
create images of silence within the noise, creating a feeling of solitude.
