Madelize obtained her B-tech Fine Art Degree from Nelson Mandela University, majoring in Printmaking and Painting. While studying she enjoyed teaching Arts and Culture part-time at Grens Primary.
She moved to Grahamstown / Makhanda and started teaching
Printmaking at Carinus Art Centre in 2006. In 2008 she spent a year in
London where she specialised in teaching Creative Development for Special Needs
learners. Madelize returned to Carinus where she once again facilitated
creativity within the Printmaking Department from 2009 – 2019.
Madelize believes strongly
in the power of art and its transformative role, which is highly evident within
the Art-Reach workshops she ran from 2013 – 2019, where she worked with
vulnerable youth. ECPACC and NAC has supported some of these programs. She
also brought the power of art to Khulanathi Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centre.
Madelize ran
successful Printmaking workshops during the National Arts Festival and ongoing
Print classes for adults while in Makhanda.
She is currently
appointed as the Senior Printmaking Technician at Michaelis School of Fine Art,
UCT, Cape Town.
