Madelize obtained her B-tech Fine Art Degree from Nelson Mandela University, majoring in Printmaking and Painting. She enjoys all technical processes involved behind printmaking while considering the process as a meditative and reflective act. The subject matter for her own creative work is derived from everyday life and objects of interest, as well as nature. She is currently appointed as the Senior Printmaking Technician at Michaelis School of Fine Art, UCT, Cape Town.
In 2006, Madelize began teaching printmaking at Carinus Art Centre in Grahamstown. In 2008, she spent a year in London where she specialised in teaching Creative Development for Special Needs learners, and then returned to Carinus, where she worked between 2009 – 2019. She believes strongly in the power of art and its transformative role, which was evident in the Art-Reach workshops where she worked with vulnerable youth from Raphael Centre and adults from Khulanathi Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centre (2013 to 2019). She ran printmaking workshops during the 2019 National Arts Festival and ongoing Print classes while in Grahamstown.
