Thuli Lubisi is a Johannesburg based Visual artist and Printmaker. In 2011 Lubisi graduated at PJ Simelane Secondary School and studied Visual art at Funda Art Centre in 2015. She enrolled for a printmaking programme at Artist Proof Studio in 2016 and after graduating, she did her internship at the studios education unit, assisting as a printmaking facilitator. Lubisi has been involved in various mural and printmaking projects and printmaking demonstrations. Since 2017, she has been part of several exhibitions, which include the Turbine and Joburg Art Fairs.
She is skilled in Monotype, relief, intaglio, silkscreen and photolithography printing techniques. Her preferred mediums are silkscreen and linocut. ‘I love how these two techniques allow me to create bold, graphic and colourful details in my prints. They are also ideal for printing on different materials’. In her work she explores and celebrates African heritage, by using patterns that derive from different cultural groups, to create shapes that are a metaphor for new landscapes that are free from political and historical constraints.
